There are so many choices when it comes to bathroom design today. Paint and wallpaper seem to stand out as the choices for wall coverings but which one is right for you? Let’s look at the pro’s and con’s of each.

When preparing for paint, you need to ensure the wall surface is well prepped. Fill any cracks or holes and use primer if necessary. This will delay your start time by a day. If the walls are bare, you are good to go. If you are choosing to wallpaper, you may have to do a little more work if there is existing wallpaper on the walls. If there is, then removal is needed and that can be tedious.

Paint and wallpaper both come in various colours, textures and sheens. Satin and eggshell are widely used for painted walls in the bathroom as they are highly durable. Wallpaper on the other hand can peel over time due to the large amounts of moisture in your bathroom. (this of course does not apply to a powder room without a bath or shower).

When it comes to your budget, paint for the most part is a more economical way to go and if you want to change your mind on colour down the road, an easy option to accomplish that. Wallpaper can range in cost depending on the roll you choose and requires more supplies than paint.

If you are still confused and looking to get the best value and a “wow” effect when you walk in your bathroom, why not do both. A mixture of paint and wallpaper can create a bathroom oasis with style, pizazz and long term enjoyment.
